- 1959 - Screenwriter Fran Walsh is born in Wellington, New Zealand.
- 1966 - J.R.R. Tolkien writes a letter to Timothy J. Wheeler.
- 1981 - Richard Boone, who voiced Smaug in the 1977 animated version of The Hobbit, dies.
