- 1924 - J.R.R. Tolkien begins his Professorship of English Language at the University of Leeds.
- 1979 - The Jackanory episode "An Unexpected Party" is aired on the BBC.
- 1999 - Noel Johnson, who played Éomer in The Lord of the Rings (1955 radio series), dies.
- 2003 - The Gospel According to Tolkien is published.
- 2007 - The second and expanded edition of Tolkien on Fairy-Stories is published.
