- 1920 - Michael Tolkien, J.R.R. Tolkien's second son, is born.
- 1927 - James Grout, who would voice Barliman Butterbur in The Lord of the Rings radio series and Nokes in the Smith of Wootton Major episode, is born.
- 1938 - Derek Jacobi, who narrated several audiobooks, is born.
- 1945 - J.R.R. Tolkien writes letter 104.
- 2007 - On Tolkien: Interviews, Reminiscences, and Other Essays is published.
