- 1979 - Oxonmoot 1979 at the Eastgate Hotel.
- 1979 - Scholars Humphrey Carpenter, George Sayer and Clyde S. Kilby deliver a public discussion on J.R.R. Tolkien at Wheaton College, Illinois (published as "A Dialogue").
