The Appledore Family were a family of Big Folk who lived in Bree. Only one member of the family is known, Rowlie Appledore, who was killed in fighting at Bree during the War of the Ring.[1]

Appledore is an old word for "apple-tree" and survives in English place-names. It represents a dialectal or archaic word of the same meaning in Westron.[2]
