Beautiful Place because Trees are Loved was the title given to J.R.R. Tolkien's response to a leader in the Daily Telegraph of June 29th, 1972. The leader, entitled "Forestry and Us", contained the following passage which arouse a reaction from Tolkien: "Sheepwalks where you could once ramble for miles are transformed into a kind of Tolkien gloom, where no bird sings...". Tolkien's letter, written on June 30, was published in the same periodical on July 4th, p.16, and was reprinted in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien, as Letter 339 (pp.419-20). [1]
