Bill (disambiguation)
From Tolkien Gateway
Bill was a first name used in the Shire and Bree. In an early version of the Appendix on Languages (published in The Peoples of Middle-earth), J.R.R. Tolkien stated he used it to translate Westron Bil, which is a short for (untranslated and further unknown) names as Arambil, Bildad and Bilcuzal. It is possibly related to Adûnaic bêl-, "love", visible in Azrubêl, a name of Eärendil the Mariner.
- Bill Ferny, a man of Bree.
- Bill the Pony, Sam's loyal pony.
- Bill Butcher, a character from Perry-the-Winkle.
- William Huggins, sometimes referred to as "Bill".
