Buldar was a Man of Agar who was the father of Hazad Longbeard and the grandfather of Tal-Elmar during the Second Age.
History[edit | edit source]
During his days of youth, Buldar fought in the army of the North King in the valley of Ishmalog against the "Fell Folk" and came back home to Agar with "a wound, a sword and a woman". The latter, named Elmar, he wedded mostly against her wish and had many sons, of which the youngest was Hazad. Elmar warned Buldar, however, that though ehe was forced to live with him she would have her vengeance: one of her bloodline would arise in Agar and bring about the downfall of Buldar's folk. [1]
Genealogy[edit | edit source]
Other versions of the legendarium[edit | edit source]
In a penciled note added to the manuscripts, J.R.R. Tolkien proposed that Buldar should be left out of the story and Elmar to be Hazad's wife. However, in the published version, this change did not occur.[2]
The rejected version of Buldar’s name is Tal-Bulda.
