The Chequers Clubbe was a dining society at Exeter College, founded in Hilary Term 1914 by J.R.R. Tolkien and Colin Cullis, and given permission by the Sub-Rector on 30 January 1914. Many of the members had likely previously been members of the Apolausticks, another club founded by Tolkien.[1]
Tolkien provided the menu artwork (see Ye Chequers Clubbe Binge) for a club dinner, held on June 18, 1914.[2]
