Ciryandil (Q, pron. [kiˈrʲandil]; Third Age 820 – 1015, aged 195 years) was the fourteenth King of Gondor and the third of the Ship-kings.
History
He succeeded his father Eärnil I in Third Age 936 and continued Eärnil's naval policies. He spent much of his life long defending the recently captured Haven of Umbar against the Black Númenóreans and the Haradrim.
In 1015 he was slain in Haradwaith while Umbar was besieged and was succeeded by his son Ciryaher, also known as Hyarmendacil I.
Etymology
Ciryandil is Quenya for "Ship-friend", from cirya "ship" and -ndil "friend".
