Duinhir was the tall lord of the Blackroot Vale, the valley of the River Morthond in western Gondor, under the shadows of the White Mountains. Like most of the Gondorian lords, he went to the support of Minas Tirith in the War of the Ring, taking with him five hundred archers, and also his sons Duilin and Derufin. Though we have an account of his sons' heroic loss in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, history records no mention of Duinhir's own fate. Given his absence from the lists of fallen warriors, he presumably survived the War and returned to his own land beyond Tarlang's Neck, though this cannot be stated with certainty.
