This article describes a concept which is mentioned in J.R.R. Tolkien's works, but was never given a definite name.

After surviving the Downfall of Númenor, Elendil landed in Middle-earth, proclaiming some words in Quenya. His heir and great-grandson by 39 generations Aragorn II spoke these words again when he took up the Crown of Gondor as King Elessar at the beginning of the Fourth Age:

Et Eärello Endorenna utúlien sinomë maruvan ar Hildinyar tenn’ Ambar-metta. [...] Out of the Great Sea to Middle-earth I am come. In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.[1]

Portrayals

Howard Shore used the oath as part of the The Great River track for The Fellowship of the Ring film. Viggo Mortensen provided the melody for the words in the track for the coronation scene in The Return of the King.
