The Elves of Eregion were first led my [[Celebrimbor]], the maker of the three Elven Rings. When the Elves first settled in [[Eregion]], [[Galadriel]] and [[Celeborn]] lived there for a time. An abnormal friendship existed between the Elves of Eregion and the Dwarves of Khazad-dûm. They traded freely and Celebrimbor helped to create one of the doors.
But then the Elves became acquainted with [[Sauron]], who taught the Elves how to make the [[Rings of Power]]. Yet Celebrimbor created the three [[Elven Rings]] without Sauron's knowledge. Thus they were saved from his evil.
When Sauron created the [[One Ring]], the Elves perceived his deception and Celembrimbor gave away the rings to Galadriel, [[Círdan]], and [[Gil-galad]]. Sauron then came to Eregion with his full force, demanding the Rings. But Gil-galad sent an army to aid Celebrimbor; [[Elrond]] too set out to help defend the land. Yet before his arrival Celebrimbor was slain in a desperate last defense.
Sauron took the remaining Rings of Power, and destroyed the Elves of Eregion. Those who escaped joined Elrond, founding [[Rivendell]] or left [[Middle-Earth]]. The Elves of Eregion had passed into myth and legend.
