Firmament

The word Firmament seems to be used interchangeably as a term for two distinct places. According to The Silmarillion, the Firmament seems to encompass the highest spaces of the infinite abode of Ilúvatar and the Ainur; however,the abode of Ilúvatar and the Ainur also seems to not be a part of Eä and would therefore be distinct from the Firmament of Arda[1], the Firmament that contains the stars[2].
