The measurement of FA 1 as the first year of the creation of the Sun has been used in fandom and Tolkien studies, as seen in the Appendix to the Complete Guide to Middle-earth. Robert Foster admits that the convention can be misleading, as it can be meant to imply that FA 1 is the first year of the First Age. Actually the number 1 indicates the first measurable solar year, not the start of the First Age.
