Formenos was the stronghold of Fëanor and his sons in the north of Valinor, built after the banishment of Fëanor from Tirion. A great number of the Noldor, including their king Finwë, went with Fëanor into exile.

It was also home to the treasury of Fëanor where he kept the Silmarils, and Melkor slew Finwë as he stole those jewels during the Darkening of Valinor.
