Can foreign wiki’s editors translate the work of Tolkien Gateway while editing their entries? References and sources are given while editing. Is this under TG’s permission?
ONE ANSWER: It depends on their technical skill and what OS they are using. If they are using Linux this is an easy, if sleazy (without permission) thing to do. I have deliberately avoided looking at any of the other Wiki's on Tolkien, but still found one Editor on here whose style and approach (and interpretation of the subject matter) is nearly identical to mine! Yet there is no content exchange - we just have similar narrative styles and similiar takes on Tolkien's motivating viewpoint (one hopes!) in how he develops the characters.
If someone is lifting your content, or you suspect the same, place an unprintable character next to a space and when your work is cut-pasted you can highlight and Ctrl-C the content on their wiki, Ctrl-V (paste) into a Hex Editor, and see if the hidden character is there. If it is, go to their wiki and POLITELY get in the culprit's face about it and ask for attribution for yourself and TG Wiki. In my long experience this will end the "clipping" right away.
