Tolkien Gateway > Forums > External links section

I'm increasingly becoming hostile to the use of "External links". In particular, the "External links" section seems to be used in the following ways:

  1. Instead of references. The David Harvey article is an example of this: they are sources which should be referenced to support the text, they are not external links per se;
  2. Instead of encyclopaedic content. The The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies article is an example of this where the reviews should, in fact, be quoted and summarised in the article (as is the case of the Roverandom article).

I do wonder whether in the former case this is just laziness on the part of the editor; and in the latter whether editors are using articles to bookmark articles of personal interest. I'd like to ask editors to consider when they are adding external links whether they should actually be including them in the article instead. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 15:59, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
