Gálmód must have been born and flourished around the 30th century of the Third Age[1]; he was the father of Gríma Wormtongue, the advisor to King Théoden of Rohan.[2]

The name Gálmód seems to derive from the Old English word for "light-minded, licentious"[3] or "light, wanton mood".[4]
