Halfred Gamgee was a Hobbit of the Shire.

History[edit | edit source]

Halfred was the youngest son of Roper Gamgee. He settled in Overhill,[1] and had one son, Halfast, who worked for the local Boffins.[2]

Etymology[edit | edit source]

The name comes from Old English healfrēad "half-red, reddish" or from healfrǣd "half counsel".[3]
