Haranyë
From Tolkien Gateway
Haranyë is a calendar term used in the context of the King's Reckoning. It is probably the name of the last year of a century.[1]
Etymology
- "In every fourth year, except the last of a century (haranyë)..."
- ― J.R.R. Tolkien[1]
The word is obviously Quenya, but of uncertain etymology.
Helge Fauskanger notes that Tolkien's wording does not make clear whether the word describes the "last [year] of a century" or a translation of "century" itself.[2]
