'''Henry N. Beard''' is an American humorist, one of the founders of the National Lampoon and the co-author of ''[[Bored of the Rings (book)|Bored of the Rings]]''. He and Douglas C. Kenney when they were both studying at Harvard and they both wrote for it's satirical newsletter, ''The Harvard Lampoon''. The students at Harvard all were required to read the Lord of the Rings saga at some point and Kenney came up with the idea that he and Beard should write a send-up of the series. They both wrote ''Bored of the Rings'' and it was published and a best-seller before either Kenney or Beard graduated. Beard had planned on going into law, but Kenney convinced Beard to eschew a life in legality in favor of writing comedy with him. They joined forced together to found ''The National Lampoon''. Beard wrote many scripts that centered around golf, a favorite pastime of his.
