Iavas was the Sindarin name for the season of autumn. This was also the name of the third season in the Calendar of Imladris; 54 days which fell more or less between 10 August and 3 October in the Shire Calendar.[1]
Etymology[edit | edit source]
The word contains a possible Sindarin word for fruit plus the abstract ending -as.
The actual word for fruit is not known but it's most likely *iaf (cf. Q. yáve, yava)
Possible OS form *jabasse
