Letter 130 is a letter written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.

This is a fragment of a letter, dated September 14, 1950, sent to Stanley Unwin. Tolkien had, by way of example, sent in a new version of the chapter Riddles in the Dark, which Allen & Unwin included in the second edition of The Hobbit. With this letter came a short explanatory note, also ment for inclusion, saying that the text as it now was (Bilbo found/stole the Ring) was what actually happened, and that the earlier version (Bilbo won the Ring) was an attempt by Bilbo to cover this up.
