Letter to G.E. Selby (1955/6)

G.E. Selby c. 1955/6 is a a six-page letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to G.E. Selby, probably written in late 1955 or early 1956.[1]
- Subject: Tolkien writes about the publication of The Lord of the Rings, which he says is not a trilogy and not an allegory. He also "comments on reviews, Frodo's failure, the Elvish languages, and the poem Errantry".[1]
- Publication: Extracts from the letter appeared in Sotheby's Nineteenth Century and Modern First Editions, Presentation Copies, Autograph Letters and Literary Manuscripts 28-29 July 1977,[2], and in Sotheby's Catalogue of Autograph Letters, Literary Manuscripts and Historical Documents 16 October 1978.[3] A summary of the letter was provided by Christina Scull and Wayne G.
