On 30 October 1965, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a letter to J.L.N. O'Loughlin.[1][2]

  • Subject: Tolkien replies that he has read O'Loughlin's article (possibly included in Odham's Dictionary of the English Language, 1965). He does not have time to provide commentary, besides finding the article plausible.[1]
  • Publication: A description of the letter appeared in The J.R.R. Tolkien Companion and Guide: Chronology.
