On 3 July 1961, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a letter to Mr. Gilmore. The one-page typed and signed letter, in which Tolkien explains why there cannot be a sequel to The Lord of the Rings, was put up for auction in early 2019 at Bonhams.[1]
