After many years living peacefully in alliance with [[Gondor]], the [[Northmen]] found their lands invaded by a mysterious eastern people known as the [[Wainriders]]. Together, the [[Gondorians]] and Northmen formed an army to meet the Wainriders, but the resulting [[Battle of the Plains]] proved disastrous. King [[Narmacil II]] of Gondor was killed in the battle, and so was [[Marhari]] of the Northmen. Marhari's son Marhwini fought in the rearguard of the army, and his cavalry was said to have saved many of Gondor's soldiers, but in the end, the Wainriders had the victory.

Marhwini was a Northman and a member of the noble family of the Kingdom of Rhovanion. His father Marhari was a descendant of King Vidugavia of Rhovanion.[1]

History

In T.A. 1851, Rhovanion was invaded by a tribe of Easterlings known as the Wainriders.[2] The soldiers of the Kingdom of Rhovanion, together with the armies of Gondor, met the Wainriders at the Battle of the Plains in 1856, which was a disaster. The King of Gondor, Narmacil II, was killed and Marhwini's father Marhari died leading the rearguard. Much of the Kingdom of Rhovanion was lost and its people were enslaved. Some Northmen escaped, and Marhwini led one band of refugees to the west.[3]
