Master
From Tolkien Gateway
Master was a title used most commonly for the ancient and powerful being known to the Elves as Iarwain Ben-adar, and to the hobbits as Tom Bombadil, whose jolly and riddling songs gave him mastery over all things in his domain.
Though most commonly used in reference to Tom, there are a number of other characters who have also been honoured with it:
- Frodo Baggins was called Master by both Samwise Gamgee and Gollum, the latter case due to Frodo's ownership of Gollum's 'precious': the One Ring.
- The elected civil leader of Esgaroth upon the Long Lake was called Master.
- The Orc Uglúk used the title of his own Master, the Wizard Saruman.
