During the Kin-strife, Castamir the Usurper besieged Osgiliath. Though Eldacar managed to escape, Ornendil was captured, and put to death by Castamir. Eldacar managed to avenge his son's death by killing Castamir ten years later.[1]

Etymology

Ornendil means "Friend of the Trees" in Quenya (from orne = "tree" and -ndil = "friend, devoted to").
