Jenny Dolfen - Fingolfin's Challenge

Rochallor was the great horse of High King Fingolfin, on which he rode to the gates of Angband and challenged Morgoth to single combat.[1] Rochallor stayed with Fingolfin until his death. When assailed by the wolves of Angband the great steed escaped by outrunning them. Coming to Hithlum, his heart broke and he died.[2]

Etymology

The first element in the name Rochallor is roch, the Sindarin word for "horse".[3] The second element is of unknown meaning.
