Simon Tolkien is the elder son of Christopher Tolkien and grandson of J.R.R. Tolkien.

He studied modern history at Oxford and is a barrister in London, where he lives with his wife and their two children. His first novel, The Stepmother (published in the United States as Final Witness), was published in 2003.
