Southfarthing was the warmer southern farthing of the Shire, with its chief town being Longbottom. This was the region where most of the Shire's pipe-weed production was concentrated, perhaps because of the warmer climate. Stoorish characteristics and appearance remained among the Hobbits of the Southfarthing.

Saruman's agents existed already since T.A. 2953 and it was the first region to fall under the rule of Lotho Sackville-Baggins.
