Southfarthing was the warmer southern farthing of the Shire, with its chief town being Longbottom. This was the region where most of the Shire's pipe-weed production was concentrated, perhaps because of the warmer climate.
Saruman'sagents existed already since T.A. 2953 and it was the first region to fall under the rule of Lotho Sackville-Baggins.
