Should we add chapter boxes like the LOTR chapter summaries have? I realize that these are a little more sweeping in both location (one chapter can potentially cover many locations) and events (hundreds of years can go by), but it might make it more consistent with other chapter summaries.

Because I believed TG and didn't consult the source material I thought that the exact name for the first section of ''The Silmarillion'' was "''The'' Ainulindalë". However, it is, of course, simply "Ainulindalë". Furthermore it is not a chapter and should not have been called "Ainulindalë (chapter)". Therefore I think that this should be moved to "Ainulindalë" and the <nowiki>"{{disambig-more|Ainulindalë|[[Ainulindalë (disambiguation)]]}}"</nowiki> at the top should be sufficient to alert readers to the disambiguation. What do you think? Also, "Ainulindalë" ''is'' a chapter of ''[[The Lost Road and Other Writings]]''; therefore should we call that article "Ainulindalë (chapter)"? If what I have proposed is agreed the current redirect pages "Ainulindalë" and "Ainulindalë (chapter)" will need to be deleted to make way for the two article moves. --{{User:KingAragorn/sig}} 15:10, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

:Seeing the example you did, it looks good, but I don't think it is a good idea. That format makes sense with the many chapters LOTR, but with ''The Silmarillion'' it is better to have an overview of the book and the place of the chapter. Thank you for making synopsis, those are actually necesary. --[[User:LorenzoCB|LorenzoCB]] 08:07, 27 April 2021 (UTC)

Because I believed TG and didn't consult the source material I thought that the exact name for the first section of The Silmarillion was "The Ainulindalë". However, it is, of course, simply "Ainulindalë". Furthermore it is not a chapter and should not have been called "Ainulindalë (chapter)". Therefore I think that this should be moved to "Ainulindalë" and the "{{disambig-more|Ainulindalë|[[Ainulindalë (disambiguation)]]}}" at the top should be sufficient to alert readers to the disambiguation. What do you think? Also, "Ainulindalë" is a chapter of The Lost Road and Other Writings; therefore should we call that article "Ainulindalë (chapter)"? If what I have proposed is agreed the current redirect pages "Ainulindalë" and "Ainulindalë (chapter)" will need to be deleted to make way for the two article moves. -- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  15:10, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

We also have the article "Ainulindalë (Morgoth's Ring)".
I'm not sure how to deal with this. If I personally searched for Ainulindalë, I would like to know stuff like: what does the name refer to, in which books can I find info about the concept, how did the concept evolve in Tolkien's works, etc. Is it that usual that people are looking for summaries of chapters/parts of books?--Morgan 18:52, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, we'll need to have "Ainulindalë (The Lost Road and Other Writings chapter)" and "Ainulindalë (Morgoth's Ring chapter)". Perhaps "Ainulindalë" could remain the disambiguation page, but then what would we call the "Ainulindalë" section of The Silmarilllion? "Ainulindalë (section)"? Or even stick with calling it a chapter as "Ainulindalë (chapter)"? -- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  10:10, 29 September 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think Ainulindalë should be the section of The Silmarillion -as unquestionably the more popular usage of the name - with everything else disambiguated. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:46, 6 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The grammar of the first sentence seems odd, in an inconspicuous way. To the ignorant reader: Is the Ainulindalë the title of the first part, or is it the first part? If "title" is the predicate noun of that opening phrase, the very word "Ainulindalë" should have quotes - otherwise it is implied that an entity is wholly equal to its own name, if both are interchangeable and neither need quotes. Whereas if the word "title" is erased entirely from the whole first paragraph, it isn't abrupt to say immediately afterwards "This tale begins.....". Unsigned comment by 216.243.12.138 (talk).

This isn't helpful. Do you have a suggestion, or do you want to edit the text yourself; it's fine for me. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 18:07, 4 April 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Chapter Boxes

Should we add chapter boxes like the LOTR chapter summaries have?
