According to Shire Calendar "2 Astron" as mentioned in the letter is equivalent to 25 March in Gregorian Calendar: http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Shire_Calendar Unsigned comment by Sigurd (talk • contribs).

I think it's more probable that it refers to 2 April (Astron=April), the day before the postmark on the envelope. --J.R.R. Tolkien 21:37, 24 March 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
According to Shire Calendar link here in Tolkien Gateway, Astron correspond to 23rd of March to 21st of April. Then the second day would be 25 March. Unsigned comment by Sigurd (talk • contribs).
And there is int the letter 2 Astron not 3 Astron, anyway is wrong dated. Unsigned comment by Sigurd (talk • contribs).
Tolkien probably wrote it 2 April, as the postmark (3 April) of course would have been put on after it was written and posted. I think this makes it highly likely that 2 Astron here refers to 2 April, and that this letter can therefore be dated 2 April. Now, as there's a dispute over this we should remove the controversial information for the time being. -- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  15:09, 27 March 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
