Translation[edit source]

When I first heard about this job of Tolkien's, I thought that this book was a translation of an Old English or a Latin scripture. However the Wikipedia article says that the translation's primary sources were original Hebrew and ancient Greek texts, with some minor contribution from the Septuagint (later Greek) and Vulgate (Latin).

I think it would be interesting to mention which language Tolkien translated from. Unless there is a specific reference, I guess he worked with the Vulgate text, as he probably was better-versed in Latin than in Greek, and certainly he was not a Hebrew scholar.
