Template:Royalty infobox Tarcil was the son and heir of Arantar of Arnor, and the great-great-grandson of Isildur himself. The sixth King to rule the North-kingdom, his reign lasted for eighty years in the middle of the first millennium of the Third Age. He was succeeded by his son Tarondor.

The name Tarcil (also spelt Tarkil) also appears in The History of The Lord of the Rings as another nickname for Aragorn: its meaning is apparently "High Man", a synonym for Dúnadan. The Orkish term "tark" for a Dúnadan is without doubt derived from this.
