The Hobbit or The Hobbit Software Adventure (such it is named in North America and Australia) was the first licensed video game based on Tolkien's work. It was part of the Tolkien Trilogy and the Tolkien Software Adventure Series. Every game included a copy of The Hobbit and a book with instructions[1]. There are 80 locations of whom 30[1] are illustrated by Kent Rees.
In 1984 David Elkan published a book, A guide ot playing the Hobbit, to help the player[2]. A parody named The Boggit was published by CRL Group PLC in 1986.
