Third Age 1981 (abbreviated to T.A. 1981) is the 1981st year of the Sun of the Third Age of Middle-earth. Third Age 1981 was also known as S.R. 381 in Shire-reckoning.
Notable events in this year include:
- King Náin I slain by the Balrog in Moria.[1]
- Thráin I, son of Náin I, becomes the King of Durin's Folk.[1]
- The Dwarves flee from Moria.[1]
- Many of the Silvan Elves of Lórien flee south.[2]
- Amroth and Nimrodel are lost.[2]
