The main article on this subject is located at Aragorn II.

Thorongil was an alias taken by Aragorn in his youth (T.A. 2957-2980[1]), when he journeyed to Rohan and Gondor and performed services to their lords.[2]

Etymology

Thorongil is Sindarin for Eagle of the Star. thoron = eagle, gil = star.
