Letters

Fr your information, I removed the following letters from the list (since I couldn't find any reference for them):

  • [[Weeler 1 August|1 August, to Mr Weeler ]]
  • [[Jonathan Wordsworth 17 Febuary 1958|17 Febuary 1958, to Jonathan Wordsworth]]

For the first letter, I cannot find anything at all. Should "Weeler" be "Wheeler"? Concerning the second, H&S noted the letter in an old version of their Addenda and Corrigenda (cached version found here), but the entry appears to have been removed from the current version (likely for a good reason). Let me know if you have additional sources for any of these two letters.--J.R.R. Tolkien 21:18, 2 April 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I put some letters in the list, because I have the arquives and informations and to easy to me put there later. (Sigurd 01:50, 3 April 2014 (UTC))Reply[reply]

Story of Kullervo

I removed the information about editors since 1) we should make an article for the book once it's published 2) as you can see on the page we leave such details for articles about the individual publications.--Morgan 17:19, 8 April 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ok. No problem. I will try write the article soon. (Sigurd 17:21, 8 April 2014 (UTC))Reply[reply]

Images

You need to have copyright owner's information and preferably permission when you upload images. --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 14:28, 4 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

So, Why there is a buttom for "Fair-use" in this site? And you deleted photos that were already here for many years. I think then that Botton "Fair-use" should be taken in the options bar and then a lot of things should be deleted, especially those from the Tolkien Estate. We have to be logical. (Sigurd 19:58, 4 May 2014 (UTC))Reply[reply]

Headshots from people aren't fair use in the strictest sense - they're owned by the photographer or publisher, and published under a different license. And as for other images - yes. But that means some should be deleted, it doesn't mean you can upload more. See also Tolkien Gateway:File licensing templates. --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 20:56, 4 May 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I did not find any specific rule on this link about Images of people. There are "Copyright files may be used on Tolkien Gateway if the image uploader believes that it qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Copyrighted images can be under fairuse because Tolkien Gateway is a not-for-profit educational website." Where is the exception for use images of peoples? If Fair use is not acepted in Tolkien Gateway I think a lot of things must be deleted indeed... Many Tolkien unpublished letter for example. (Sigurd 02:41, 5 May 2014 (UTC))Reply[reply]

Not everything is fair use. You can't simply grab whatever you find on the internet, slap on a fair use tag and reuse it. Do not upload any more images. --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 13:11, 4 August 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I repear Tolkiengateway rules: "Copyright files may be used on Tolkien Gateway if the image uploader believes that it qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Copyrighted images can be under fairuse because Tolkien Gateway is a not-for-profit educational website." Unsigned comment by Sigurd (talk • contribs).
On what basis did you believe it was fair use? --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 15:06, 4 August 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The Fair use doctrine permits use if no free or PD alternative is available. There is - someone can go to Oxford and take the photographs themselves. --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 18:14, 4 August 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
