Etymologies

Hi! I don't pretend to debunk your work with the etymologies, but some of them do not fit the style of the wiki, specially this last of Culúrien. You cannot include your own interpretations of the names, no matter if you put links to the roots. If Tolkien didn't give a translation, we can provide one made by an authority to which we refer. Otherwise there is no point on giving a reference that doesn't include what you are saying. You know, that's what references are meant for. --LorenzoCB 23:03, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for your message. I'm contributing in good faith, and I wasn't sure where this wiki stands on personal interpretation of what's given. I thought I was on solid ground, since I was working with sourced grammatical roots; for example, Telperion = silver + garland/wreath + plural particle, so I interpreted it as "garlands of silver". However, this would be considered Original Research over on Wikipedia, and I guess you guys are the same way. As much as I wanted to connect the dots, I'm willing to retract that stuff and go by the book. Keep in mind, I've been working mostly from the Appendix and Index of the Silmarillion, so the roots and some of the names can stay (where backed up by the Index). I'll abide by this from now on. as an addendum, I WAS confident in my personal interpretations, until I unearthed a new source that offers a number of etymologies which I hadn't considered (namely [1]).
