Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch, CBE, is a British actor who portrayed the dragon Smaug and the Necromancer/Sauron in The Hobbit (film series) using motion capture as well as his voice .^[1] He starred with Martin Freeman in the BBC TV series Sherlock.
