Beren (Third Age 2655[1] – 2763,[2] aged 108 years) was the nineteenth Ruling Steward of Gondor.

History[edit | edit source]

Beren succeeded his father Egalmoth at his death in T.A. 2743.[2]

Beren spent much of his rule fighting the Corsairs of Umbar for the coasts were assailed by three great fleets from Umbar and from Harad up to the mouth of Isen. During the Long Winter of T.A. 2758 - 2759, Rohan came under attack from the Dunlendings, but as both nations were under attack neither could help each other. Before spring his son Beregond overcame the invaders and was able to send help to Rohan and fulfill the Oath of Eorl.

After the wars, Saruman suddenly appeared and requested leave to dwell in Isengard, and Beren gladly gave the Wizard the key of Orthanc.[3]

Beregond followed Beren at his death in 2763.[2]
