Crayon drawing of the West Gate of Moria by J.R.R. Tolkien. On the western side of the Misty Mountains, by which the Fellowship of the Ring entered the Mines: cf. The Fellowship of the Ring, Book II, Chapter 4, A Journey in the Dark:

'Beyond the ominous water were reared vast cliffs, their stern faces pallid in the fading light: final and impassable.'

It was published in The J.R.R. Tolkien Calendar 1973 and 1974, and in The Lord of the Rings 1977 Calendar (slightly truncated at top and bottom).
