The battle of the Pass of Aglon was one of the many defeats suffered by the Noldor following the Dagor Bragollach.

History

After being held for four centuries, the Siege of Angband was broken in the year F.A. 455. Morgoth released great fires and the dragon Glaurung against the armies in what is known as the Dagor Bragollach. The Sons of Fëanor suffered several assaults in their territories in East Beleriand. Maedhros and Maglor fought in the Hill of Himring, which did not fall, but the armies of Orcs split and many went south through the Pass of Aglon and the March of Maedhros. In Aglon, Celegorm and Curufin had many forces, mostly horsed archers, but they were overthrown.[1]

The armies of Morgoth took the Pass despite high losses, and Celegorm and Curufin fled southwards to Nargothrond, increasing the armies of King Finrod. Maedhros achieved great military deeds in those times, even retaking the Pass of Aglon for a time.[2]
