The '''[[Dúnedain of the North]]''' were the descendants of the [[Númenóreans]] that survived the [[Downfall of Númenor]] and landed in the north of [[Middle-earth]]. There, under [[Elendil]], they founded the kingdom of [[Arnor]]. They were the cousins of the Dúnedain of the South. Since Arnor was destroyed while its sister kingdom [[Gondor]] survived, the Dúnedain of the South were referred to as ''the'' [[Dúnedain]].
