- "For the Naugrim withstood fire more hardily than either Elves or Men, and it was their custom moreover to wear great masks in battle hideous to look upon."
- ― Quenta Silmarillion[1]
The dwarf-masks were helmets of great crafting made in the First Age by the Dwarves of the Blue Mountains. These helmets had face plates which could be lowered over the face as a mask, and through this the fire of dragons might be withstood.[2]
The Dwarves of Belegost appeared in the Battle of Unnumbered Tears wearing such masks.[1] A dwarf-mask, as well as dwarf-mail, was in the possession of the Elves of Nargothrond; Túrin Mormegilwas gifted a dwarf-helm during his time in Nargothrond.[3]
