Elendur means "Servant of the Elves" in Quenya (from elen = "star, Elf" and -dur = "servant of"). The name of Elendur, son of Isildur, could possibly translate as "Servant of the Stars", but the name of his grandfather, Elendil, translates as "Friend of the Elves", and most likely the interpretation of elen remained the same within the family.
